Gold vs. Bitcoin
Two very different assets often lumped together. Here is the honest comparison.
Gold and Bitcoin are frequently compared because both are scarce, both sit outside the traditional banking system, and both are held by investors worried about fiat debasement. But they are fundamentally different.
Where they agree
- Fixed or slow supply growth
- No central issuer that can inflate them at will
- Portable stores of value (Bitcoin more so digitally, gold more so physically)
Where they differ
Gold has a 5,000-year track record; Bitcoin has 15 years. Gold has near-zero counterparty risk when held physically; Bitcoin depends on network integrity and self-custody discipline. Gold's volatility is a fraction of Bitcoin's.
Which do you need?
For most investors, the answer is not either/or. Gold anchors the portfolio. Bitcoin, if used at all, is a high-volatility satellite position.
